A Seffner man is facing a DUI manslaughter charge after police say he ran a red light and caused a fatal accident while drunk.

Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol say a 21-year-old man was driving his truck north on McIntosh Road on the evening of September 19 when he approached the intersection of US 92, also known as Hillsborough Avenue, which had a red light showing in his lane.

Per authorities, the defendant did not stop at the light and proceeded into the intersection. Also in the intersection was the eastbound car driven by a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old passenger. They say the two cars collided in the intersection and spun out, coming to rest still on the pavement.

First responders arrived and transported both occupants of the car to hospital. The driver subsequently expired, while the passenger continues to be treated for serious injuries.

Meanwhile, police say the driver of the truck was uninjured. Local media did not indicate what led authorities to believe he was intoxicated, but he was subsequently arrested and booked into jail. He currently faces a charge of DUI manslaughter. No information was available regarding whether he remains in custody or bonded out.
