A Tampa man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he broke into a home with a firearm and attacked a couple.
Tampa police were summoned to a home on the 900 block of E. Poinsettia Avenue in the early morning hours of November 22 after two individuals had an altercation on the steps of one of the men’s home. They say the defendant, a 51-year-old man, produced a firearm during the altercation and shot the other man.
Police say upon being shot, the man ran back into his home in an attempt to flee from the defendant. They say the man’s wife was within, and the defendant fired a round at her as she attempted to intercede. However, she was ultimately unharmed.
First responders to the scene began to treat the wounded man, and he was taken to hospital soon after. Meanwhile, the defendant was stopped and apprehended by Tampa police as he drove away from the scene.
Though declining to release the names of the two victims, police confirmed that the parties were all acquainted with each other and that the two men have had arguments in the past.
The Florida native was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail later that day. He’s being charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count each of armed burglary of a dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and carrying a concealed firearm. He continues to be held in jail without bond.
