Argument Over Linens Allegedly Escalates To Attempted Murder In Dunedin

A Tarpon Springs woman is facing murder charges after Pinellas County deputies say an argument with her boyfriend over bedding covers escalated into violence

Police were summoned to a residence in Dunedin just before dawn last Monday by the boyfriend, whom officers say was suffering from a gunshot wound. According to the officers, he and his 21-year-old girlfriend were arguing over linens when she demanded that he leave the residence. Rather than leaving, the man allegedly struck her with an open hand.

After being struck, the woman retreated to obtain a firearm she kept in her purse, officers say. In the meantime, the man allegedly attempted to close the door between her and himself, with their infant daughter on his side of the door. However, the man was unsuccessful and ultimately wound up with the suspect in a chokehold. While in this position, officers say she fired one shot at the man, the round entering the left side of his abdomen. Rather than claiming self defense, officers say the suspect told them that she fired the round at her boyfriend out of anger, as she retrieved the firearm specifically for that reason.

Upon wounding her boyfriend, the woman allegedly collected her daughter and fled the residence, opting not to notify emergency services. She was arrested later that afternoon and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on a single count of attempted felony murder. The Florida native was released late the next day after posting a surety bond of $200,000.

Meanwhile, authorities say the boyfriend is in hospital in stable condition, and their daughter has been placed with family members.
