A Spring Hill man is facing kidnapping and murder charges after Hernando authorities discover the remains of a woman he's accused of terrorizing in the past.

The 50-year-old truck driver turned himself in to deputies inside a store to which mobile phone data led them, marking the conclusion of a strange set of events that allegedly led to the death of a 53-year-old woman.

Deputies say the story began in late April, when he allegedly attempted to suffocate the woman, who was then his girlfriend. She obtained a protective injunction a few days later, and he was arrested for the alleged choking incident just over a week later.

He wasted little time before he violated the protective order, as he placed a call to the woman from jail the next day. He was re-arrested for that act and remained in custody for almost two weeks before being released upon posting bail.

According to investigators, the eventual victim contacted a taxi company earlier in the day, telling them that they should call police if she didn't answer the door when she arrived. The taxi company contacted Pasco County authorities directly, and deputies who were dispatched to the home were unable to make contact with anyone at the premises.

The taxi company was the recipient of a text message later in the day that said the woman was with the suspect and was afraid for her life. The company again contacted police, passing along to 9-1-1 dispatchers the fact that her cellphone had been tracked to a local discount store.

Upon arriving at the store, deputies say they encountered the suspect in his semi-trailer truck. He first attempted to back out and escape, but deputies had already blocked off his potential exit route. After telling 9-1-1 dispatchers that he didn't wish to surrender until his mother arrived, the suspect ultimately exited the cab and was arrested. The remains of the woman he allegedly kidnapped were discovered in the cab after his arrest.

The suspect, whom authorities say is a member of a Puerto Rican prison gang, was booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of kidnapping and felony murder. He continues to be held without bond.
