A Lithia man was arrested last week after investigators say he is responsible for a murder that came to light three months ago with the discovery of skeletal human remains.

Hillsborough authorities arrested the 21-year-old man at his home on January 4, though they did not reveal any information regarding the evidence upon which they base their suspicions, nor the man’s possible motivations in the alleged slaying.

The investigation began three months ago when a maintenance worker discovered the remains of a 21-year-old man at a local trailer park. The remains discovered on October 3 were in an advanced state of decay, with very little left of the murder victim’s body but his bones.

The suspect was arrested in the early afternoon of January 4 and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail in the early evening of the same day. He was initially charged with second-degree murder, but authorities bumped it to first-degree murder shortly after he was booked. He’s also facing a charge of evidence tampering. The suspect continues to be held without bond.
