A St. Petersburg man is facing drunk driving and homicide charges after authorities say he was intoxicated when he struck and killed a motorcyclist.

Pinellas County prosecutors say Dylan Charles Baron was driving southbound on Fourth Street N late on June 25 when he encountered a 2016 BMW motorcycle at the intersection of Gandy Boulevard. Michael P. Majchrowski, who was astride the motorcycle at the time, was crossing the intersection after entering it when the green light showed on the traffic signal.

Per authorities, Baron’s 2014 Chevrolet Cruze did not slow in obedience to the red light showing in his lane, as they say the 23-year-old New Hampshire native was asleep at the wheel. Despite wearing a helmet, the resulting collision inflicted grievous injuries upon Majchrowski, who expired at the scene of the accident.

Police say Baron had been drinking alcoholic beverages prior to the incident, but the particulars regarding how they came to that conclusion were not released to the press.

Baron was booked into the Pinellas County Jail later the next day on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. He continues to be incarcerated pending a bond of $70,000.
