Tampa police say a Clearwater man drunkenly drove the wrong way on the Veteran’s Expressway last week, causing (and leaving) two car accidents in the process.

Daniel Livoti stands accused of piloting his vehicle in a southerly direction on the northbound lanes of the Expressway late last Tuesday night and into the early morning hours the next day. According to authorities, Livoti was the subject of several frantic reports to 9-1-1 operators and was witnessed by deputies of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Livoti’s first alleged incident took place near I-275, after which police say he departed the scene. They say he continued southward, initiating a second accident in the vicinity of S Dale Mabry Highway, and, according to police, he did not remain in the area of that incident either.

Officers caught up with the 43-year-old Massachusetts native two miles away from the scene of the second accident in the drive-thru of a fast-food restaurant. They say he displayed signs of impairment upon arrest.

Livoti was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and three counts of driving under the influence. He declined a blood-alcohol test and was released later that day after posting a $2,000 bond.
