Deadly Crash Leads to DUI Manslaughter Charge for Brooksville Man
A fatal crash last week in Brooksville is being laid at the feet of a man whom authorities say was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol say a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro piloted by Rodger James Carr was traveling east at a high rate of speed on Centralia Road near Sunshine Grove Boulevard at around seven o’clock last Sunday night when a Honda Fit driven by Sandra Sevilla stopped in the intersection and turned in the path of Carr’s vehicle.
According to troopers, the 51-year-old Carr did nothing to avoid Sevilla’s vehicle, and a crash was the result. Sevilla was seriously injured in the incident, and was delivered to Oak Hill Hospital. Unfortunately her injuries were mortal, and the 53-year-old woman expired soon after her arrival. An unnamed passenger in the Fit was uninjured in the accident.
Carr was lightly injured, according to the FHP, but they say he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Further specifics were sparse, but it is clear that he was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center early the next morning. Charged with one count of DUI manslaughter and one count of vehicular homicide, Carr posted a bond of $60,000 and was released that evening.
