Port Richey Fire Chief Faces DUI Charges After Motorcycle Wreck

Port Richey's top fire fighter is facing DUI charges after police say he wrecked his motorcycle while in a state of intoxication.

Fire Chief Timothy Ollie Fussell was arrested October 15 by New Port Richey police after he crashed his motorcycle in a New Port Richey parking lot at around ten o'clock that evening. New Port Richey fire department personnel responded shortly thereafter to treat unspecified injuries he sustained in the accident.

According to police Timothy Fussell exhibited what they considered signs of impairment. He allegedly revealed to an officer that he drank a handful of lite beers prior to the accident, but they say he declined to submit to a blood-alcohol content test at the scene of the accident.

Authorities say the 61-year-old Fussell attempted to leave the scene of the accident but was ultimately transported to Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey for treatment.

However, prior to his departure from the scene his wife Suzanna Lynn Fussell arrived at the site. Police say she too appeared inebriated and proceeded to instruct Timothy not to speak to investigators. They say she was bodily removed from the scene, but she followed the ambulance to the hospital.

Police say Suzanna attempted to interfere at the hospital as well, forcing herself into the hospital, removing IV tubes from her husband's arm, and throwing vials of his blood into a trash receptacle. Police say that Timothy struck an officer in the face shortly afterward.

Timothy was booked into the Pasco County Jail on charges of DUI and battery on a law-enforcement officer. Suzanna was also booked into jail, but under charges of obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence. Both subsequently bonded out.
