St. Pete Police Say Clearwater Man's DNA Links Him to Two Sexual Assault Cases Almost Two Decades Ago

St. Petersburg police arrested a man last week whom they say committed two sexual assaults almost twenty years ago.

Investigators say Terry Dewayne White's DNA was entered into the FBI's national database by another agency investigating a different set of crimes. St. Petersburg investigators allegedly matched his DNA up with samples collected from sexual battery cases in 1999 and 2001.

According to reports taken at the time, a 22-year-old woman was abducted by an unknown assailant on the evening of May 2, 1999 after her vehicle broke down. She says she was taken elsewhere and assaulted by a man who offered to help her with her vehicle.

The second case allegedly occurred on July 26, 2001 when a 21-year-old woman said an unidentified man abducted her and transported her by car to a second location to be sexually assaulted.

Investigators say they are continuing to investigate cold cases to determine whether White may have been involved in those as well.

White was arrested Thursday evening at his Clearwater home and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He's currently being held without bond on two counts of sexual battery via coercion on the 1999 incident, and one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual battery in the 2001 incident. Local media reports that he has a significant history of petty crimes in Florida.
