A Tampa man already sought by authorities for failing to appear in court to answer a DUI charge is alleged to have run a red light Monday morning, killing a man and seriously injuring his wife.

Carlos Yordanis Fleitas-Spiedad was driving south on Kelley Road and attempting to turn left onto Memorial Highway just before 5:30 A.M. when sheriff's deputies allege that his 2001 Ford van struck a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was being driven by 54-year-old Jeffery Mandore, and his wife of the same age, Linda, was seated in the passenger seat. Jeffrey Mandore expired at the scene of the accident, while Linda was transported to a local hospital and is listed as being in serious condition as of the close of business on Monday.

According to the sheriff's office, the Mandores, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, had recently purchased a retirement home in Florida and were traveling back to their existing home north of Chicago to prepare for a move.

After the incident, 36-year-old Fleitas-Spiedad is alleged to have fled the scene on foot. Officers arrested him later in the day at his home, saying that he smelled of alcohol. He submitted to a blood draw. Fleitas-Spiedad is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, driving on a canceled, suspended, or revoked license, and failure to appear. No additional DUI charges were pending against him at the time of this writing.
