Sarasota Woman Faces Charges After Allegedly Passing Out in Car with Her Children
A Sarasota woman was arrested last week after allegedly being found unconscious in a vehicle with two young children and a variety of illegal drugs.
Sarasota County sheriff’s deputies say Veronica Posey was discovered at half past seven in the evening on July 1 on Ashton Road a few blocks east of Swift Rd. They say she was unconscious in the driver’s seat. Officers also indicated that two young children were unattended in the back seat.
Deputies allege that, upon searching the vehicle, they discovered Tramadol, Alprazolam, Hydromorphone, amphetamine, crack cocaine, and a small amount of cannabis. They further allege that Ms. Posey was under the influence of alcohol at the time of her discovery. Upon her arrest, deputies transported Posey to the Sarasota County Jail, where she was booked about three hours after her initial discovery. The two children were not injured and were subsequently turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services.
Posey, who celebrated her 37th birthday in February, was out on bond at the time. She was arrested just before dawn on June 17th when sheriff’s deputies say she was again passed out behind the wheel, allegedly in the middle of Country Place Blvd. Officers at the time alleged her to be in the possession of over two dozen prescription pills.
According to Sarasota County records, Posey’s most recent arrest is her 32nd. Previous arrests include for DUI, Issuance of a Worthless Check and a variety of drug charges. Sarasota County Jail records indicate that she is currently being held without bond, awaiting arraignment on six counts of drug possession on June 22, another drug count on June 26 (for which she was arrested while in custody on July 6), and five more drug counts on August 5.
