A St. Pete Beach woman is facing charges of DUI manslaughter after Pinellas County authorities say she struck and killed a man, then fled and initiated another car wreck.
Per PCSD deputies, Carolyn Jean Yovan was piloting her Lexus SUV near Captiva Circle and Blind Pass Road on the evening of February 17 when it jumped the curb and struck Peter Chenhall.
Chenhall, who was walking on the sidewalk at the time of the incident, sustained mortal injuries in the accident. Also of St. Pete Beach, the 39-year-old man was transported to Bayfront Hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life, and he expired later that evening.
Meanwhile, deputies say Yovan left the scene of her collision with Chenhall and proceeded on, causing another car accident at Gulf Boulevard and Gulf Winds Drive. No injuries were reported from that accident.
The 51-year-old New York state native was arrested shortly thereafter and booked into the Pinellas County Jail early the next morning on charges of driving with a suspended or revoked license, leaving the scene of a fatal car accident, and DUI manslaughter. She remains incarcerated in lieu of a $252,500 bond.
