Hillsborough County prosecutors announced last week that they will seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing his girlfriend and daughter and seriously injuring their son.

Ronnie Oneal III stands accused of killing Kenyatta Barron and their 9-year-old daughter on March 19. Though they say he also attempted to take the life of their 8-year-old son, he survived after a lengthy hospital stay.

Oneal pled not guilty to the charges, which include two counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, and resisting an officer without violence. He has since asked for a change of venue due to considerations over heightened media scrutiny of his trial.

Per prosecutors, Oneal shot, stabbed, and bludgeoned his 33-year-old girlfriend and daughter before setting their home alight. Deputies who responded to a summons from 9-1-1 dispatchers say they apprehended him just outside the blazing residence, shouting religious phrases. His son survived the attack and wandered from the home with severe burns, exposed innards, and a collapsed lung.

Oneal was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail the same day as the alleged attack, where he is being held without bond.
