St. Petersburg officials say a well-tenured employee of the county’s jobs agency stole thousands of dollars in gift cards from the agency for her own personal use.
Danielle Robertson stands accused by Pinellas County prosecutors of stealing $6,700 from gift cards from CareerSource Pinellas. Per investigators, Robertson used the cards, which come in $50 denominations, at several stores and gas stations around town.
Police calculate that Robertson used $2,945 of gas cards and $3,742 of gift cards between last May and mid-February. According to investigators, two recipients of $50 cards from the organization returned to it noting that the cards had a zero balance when they were given them. An investigation was subsequently launched, culminating with Robertson’s arrest early last month.
Investigators say they identified Robertson by showing CareerSource management surveillance video of Robertson using the stolen cards. They say Robertson, who had a key to the safe in which the cards were stored, kept the depleted cards segregated from the cards that still had balances.
Robertson was booked into the Pinellas County Jail in early March on a felony charge of scheming to defraud. She was released within hours after posting a bond of $5,000.
