A Ft. Meade man is facing drunk driving charges after deputies say he caused a wreck involving a police cruiser last week while intoxicated.
According to Hillsborough County deputies, the 21-year-old man was driving east on 60 Highway East in the pre-dawn hours last Saturday when he approached two other cars in Valrico. They say he failed to slow when he came to a deputy’s vehicle and struck it.
The defendant allegedly then struck another vehicle and came to a stop. The two deputies within the patrol car allegedly struck by the defendant said he appeared to be intoxicated when they approached the vehicle, and that he performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
According to deputies, the defendant returned a blood-alcohol content of 0.181 percent and 0.168 percent, which is more than double the Florida legal limit of 0.08 percent.
The two deputies involved in the wreck were uninjured.
The Florida native was arrested at the scene and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence with property damage. He was released later that day after posting a $500 surety bond.
