Turkish Representative Facing Kidnapping Charges After Woman Allegedly Found Dead At His Home

A Turkish representative is facing murder charges after police say he bound and drugged a woman who eventually died as a result.

The 39-year-old man first came to the attention of the police when 9-1-1 received a report of a woman of similar age not breathing at his home. First responders say he was performing CPR on her, but they determined that she had expired prior to their arrival.

Investigators say they determined that the defendant was tying up the woman on a regular basis to prevent her from escaping. An interview with a witness in the home said he used fitness bands to restrain her and stuffed a sock in her mouth to keep her from crying out.

The defendant allegedly told investigators that he had been restraining the woman due to a bout with postpartum depression that caused her to act in a bizarre manner. He allegedly said he gave her melatonin to help her sleep and released her when she calmed down.

However, he allegedly said the last time he released her, her pulse was weak and she remained in bed. He continued by saying he attempted to wake her later, but she was not responsive and he summoned first responders.

The Turkish native was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on three charges of false imprisonment and three counts of battery. He was freed and fitted with a GPS tracking unit after posting a bond of $245,000.
