A trio of Polk County twentysomethings are facing murder charges on allegations that they are responsible for the deaths of three people killed near Frostproof late last week.

A 26-year-old man, his 27-year-old girlfriend, and his 21-year-old brother are all accused of the fatal beating and shooting of three male victims ranging in age from 23 to 30 years.

According to authorities, tips from a crime-reporting hotline alerted them to the 26-year-old suspect, claiming that he has a violent temper. They say the event to kick off the fatal encounter was earlier that evening, when the two groups encountered each other at a store, with the meeting ending in the suspect claiming that one of the eventual victims stole a truck engine from him.

Investigators say the suspects followed the victims out of the store to a wooded family compound and then on the way to a fishing location. The 26-year-old allegedly began to talk to one of the victims, ending the discussion after they both exited their respective vehicles and the defendant produced a firearm.

He then allegedly threatened one victim with the gun before shooting the three victims in a rage. The trio then allegedly repositioned the dead and dying in their own vehicle and fled the area. The defendants allegedly disposed of the murder weapon and ordered dinner at a fast-food restaurant.

The 26-year-old defendant is facing three counts of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. His brother is charged with evidence tampering, and both he and the 27-year-old woman are charged with accessory after the fact.
