Suspect In Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident In Keystone Turns Himself In

A man allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run incident in Keystone has begun speaking with investigators about the crash that killed a motorcyclist.

Investigators say the suspect was driving his truck on Gunn Highway on Friday evening with a boat in tow when he approached the intersection with Tarpon Springs Road. As the man piloted the vehicle through a left-hand turn onto Tarpon Springs Road, it allegedly did so right into the path of a motorcyclist heading south on Gunn Highway.

The motorcyclist was traveling too fast to stop, and investigators say it collided with the rear of the trailer in the intersection. The suspect is alleged not to have stopped after the wreck, proceeding west on Tarpon Springs Road. Meanwhile, the motorcyclist remained at the scene with devastating injuries. First responders transported him to a local hospital, where he expired as a result of his injuries.

Initially investigators said they believed the suspect may not have been aware of the accident and appealed to the public for help in locating him. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office did not identify the suspect, the victim, nor the reason the suspect came forward. No word has been released whether the suspect will be criminally charged over the incident or what those charges may be.
