Federal authorities have charged a St. Petersburg man and his three sons with fraud over allegations that the men sold a “miracle cure” for COVID-19 that was little more than a bleach mixture.

Per investigators, the men marketed the substance throughout the United States via a religious organization they formed for the purpose. The 62-year-old man and his sons, who range in age from 26 to 34 years, are alleged to have sold the unapproved substance that essentially became a bleach-like substance upon ingestion.

Despite receiving an order from a Miami federal judge to cease selling the substance, investigators say they continued on selling the substance, which they allegedly claimed was also a cure for HIV-AIDS, autism, cancer, multiple scleroses, and Alzheimer’s disease. Initially the defendants agreed to abide by the court order, but investigators say they violated their promise under the guise of religious freedom.

The defendants are all facing Federal charges of criminal contempt, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and conspiracy to violate the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, all of which could get each of the men 17 years or more in Federal custody.

No information was available as to their current custody status at the time of this writing.
