Three Teens Facing Felony Charges After Running Gun Battle In North Tampa

pistol-1350484_640.jpgA trio of teenage boys are facing charges after being captured on a surveillance camera operated by the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office engaged in a gunfight in north Tampa.

Deputies say two 16-year-old boys were riding a bicycle and a scooter past a group of eight teenage boys last Monday when the two groups began an exchange of words. A few of the teens from the larger group decided to give chase to the two other boys after a few moments.

Deputies say one of the chased boys turned and leveled a 9 mm handgun at the pursuing party, firing off a number of rounds at the pursuers. In response to the situation, deputies say a 17-year-old boy produced a .22 revolver and returned fire.

Alerted to 9-1-1 calls reporting gunfire in the area, deputies responded and located the 17-year-old alleged gunman in the company of several other teens at a nearby apartment. The boy was arrested at the apartment and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of minor in possession, carrying a concealed firearm, and discharging a firearm in public.

The following day deputies located the two 16-year-old defendants, following them to a vacant apartment. Upon knocking on the door, deputies say one of the two defendants fled and was captured after a brief foot pursuit. He was charged with minor in possession of a firearm, reckless display of a firearm, armed trespassing, resisting without violence, and attempted tampering with evidence.

The third boy was taken without incident at the apartment and booked into jail on a charge of trespassing. He also had a warrant for armed burglary of a dwelling, grand theft of a firearm, and minor in possession of a firearm from a previous incident.
