A Clearwater man is facing charges after police say he struck a pedestrian while driving drunk last week.

The 20-year-old man was allegedly driving his 2015 Toyota Camry westward on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in the early morning hours on Saturday when it allegedly struck a 35-year-old man crossing in the middle of the street outside of a crosswalk.

Upon arrival first responders discovered a critically-injured pedestrian, whom they transported to a nearby medical facility. He was subsequently transferred to another facility, and details of his condition after the incident were not made available.

Meanwhile, deputies spoke to the driver, whom they say exhibited signs of intoxication. Deputies did not divulge further details nor specify whether the defendant had undergone blood or breath tests for alcohol.

The Florida native was arrested at the scene and transported to the Pinellas County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. He was subsequently released upon posting a bond of $650.
