Four Women Charged With Introducing Illegal Drugs Into Pinellas County Jail

A quartet of women are facing charges on allegations by detention deputies that they smuggled illegal drugs into the Pinellas County Jail over the past several weeks.

The first instance was noted in mid-April, involving a 31-year-old inmate. She was first arrested on January 24 on misdemeanor battery charges as well as pursuant to a warrant for giving false information to law enforcement. The Tampanian allegedly arranged to have a 36-year-old woman mail her Suboxone, which detention deputies intercepted as it entered the jail. The younger woman now faces a charge of introducing contraband into a detention facility. She posted a $10,000 bond and was released after being sentenced to time served on the other counts.

Meanwhile, detectives identified the sender of the illicit drugs and arrested her last week. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of introducing contraband into a detention facility and possession of buprenorphine. The Tampanian was released later that day after posting a bond of $7,000.

Detectives say the investigation into the above case led them to find more illicit drugs in jail. Upon a medical search of a 49-year-old inmate a quantity of methamphetamine was allegedly discovered in a body cavity. Per detention deputies, the Odessa woman had been hiding the 14 ounces of the drug at the time of her booking. A charge of introducing contraband into a detention facility was tacked onto her original slate of charges, and she bonded out after posting a surety of $46,650.

A fourth woman was also discovered hiding illicit drugs in the course of the search, per deputies. The 29-year-old woman was allegedly discovered hiding a gram of methamphetamine in her clothing, leading to a new drug charge in addition to the several she was already facing. The New York native was released on her own recognizance last week.
