A Texas “ozone therapy” business has been permanently enjoined from touting its service as a treatment for COVID-19 after a Federal investigation allegedly found the firm making such unproven claims.
Last week the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas granted the injunction against the Dallas business pursuant to a request made in a civil complaint by the Department of Justice. Investigators say the proprietor told callers that despite ozone therapy’s inherent risk, the procedure sanitizes and eradicates all manner of objects of viral and bacterial infection. They say the office also claimed that the treatment was safe for both adults and children.
In addition to claims allegedly made by the proprietor over the telephone, Federal investigators pointed to social media postings made by the firm that said ozone treatment was the only way to prevent novel coronavirus by increasing oxygen levels in the blood. In addition to COVID-19, the proprietor allegedly advertised ozone treatment as effective against Ebola, cancer, and SARS.
Federal prosecutors say the defendant agreed to abide by the permanent injunction, which was granted by U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay in Dallas.
