Brooksville Man Facing Felony Drug Charges After Search Warrant Leads To Over Two Pounds Of Fentanyl

640px-Fentanyl._2_mg._A_lethal_dose_in_most_people.jpgDeputies of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrested a man last week they say possessed enough fentanyl to overdose over half a million individuals.

The 43-year-old Brooksville man was taken into custody on Friday, ending an investigation against a man whom authorities say also has outstanding arrest warrants for other drug charges.

Search warrant in hand, deputies combed the premises on April 24, allegedly finding several different illegal drugs in a range of amounts. According to arrest paperwork, the man's home held 2.2 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine, half an ounce of hashish, and small amounts of cocaine, oxycodone, and cannabis.

The defendant was booked into the Hernando County Jail in the mid-morning two Fridays ago. He faces several counts related to drug trafficking, including sale of heroin within 1,000' of a school, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, operating a drug house, possession of drug equipment, use of a two-way device to facilitate a felony, cocaine possession, and possession of under 20 grams of marijuana. He continues to be held pending a bond of $26,000.

Hernando County officials emphasized the danger inherent in possessing such large amounts of synthetic opioid pain killers, asserting that the cache allegedly found at the defendant's home would suffice to lead to fatal overdoses for over 500,000 adults.
