St. Pete Man Facing Murder Charge In Disappearance Of His Ex-Wife

A missing person case has turned into a homicide prosecution after St. Petersburg authorities say a local man is responsible for the death of his ex-wife.

Police say the 62-year-old woman's absence was first noted early last month when she did not arrive at her place of work. Citing surveillance video evidence they say they have in their possession, investigators say the woman entered her home a few days prior, but the footage does not show her leaving it.

Investigators say a 62-year-old man is responsible, as the footage they have shows him removing a large object from the residence and placing it in the trunk of his car. When interviewed by investigators, the defendant allegedly told them the woman walked out of the house on February 28 and he has not seen her since.

However, they say physical evidence discovered in his car and home lead them to question the veracity of his statement. Investigators did not offer further details on the nature of the evidence.

Meanwhile, the medical examiner issued a death certificate for the woman last week stating that she was a victim of homicide but not stating a method for her passing.

Per local media, court records indicate that the pair were divorced two years ago.
