Discovery Of Two Decomposed Bodies Leads to Pair Of Murder Charges For Polk County Man

A Lakeland man is facing murder charges after Polk County authorities say he savagely killed a married couple and dumped their remains in a local swamp.

Deputies say they first became aware of the situation when a 19-year-old woman was reportedly attempting to sell a truck for only a few hundred dollars. According to witnesses, she freely admitted that the truck was up for sale because the owner had been murdered, making the disposal of his truck a necessity.

Several witnesses reported the woman, leading deputies to investigate her residence. She allegedly confessed to the slayings right away and showed officers two corpses in an advanced state of decomposition in the rear of the home.

A further interview with the woman allegedly yielded the story of how the two people lost their lives. Investigators say her stepfather, a 34-year-old man, was friends with the 33-year-old male decedent, but he allegedly owed the defendant $30,000. The debt remained unpaid for an extended period, leading the defendant to lose patience, they say.

To resolve the situation, investigators say the defendant broke into the victims' home last month and killed both the man and his 37-year-old wife. The defendant enlisted the aid of his stepdaughter and her 19-year-old boyfriend in burying the bodies, they say. He then allegedly fled the scene, remaining on the lam as the two remained behind to dispose of the truck at their leisure.

The defendant was arrested last week and booked into the Polk County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed kidnapping. He continues to be held without bond. His stepdaughter and her boyfriend were charged with being accessories after the fact, failing to report a death, and dealing in stolen property.
