Pinellas Park Man Facing DUI Charges After Allegedly Flipping Another Car While Drunk

Authorities say a Pinellas Park man was intoxicated when he fled from a traffic stop and started a pursuit that ended with another car upside down in a ditch.

Police say the 31-year-old man first came to their attention on the evening of January 29 when he committed an unspecified traffic infraction. An officer in a police cruiser attempted to pull him over, but he says the man chose instead to speed away, running a red light in the process.

The defendant subsequently struck a second vehicle, striking it with enough force to roll over. The vehicle came to rest upside down in a ditch. Pinellas Park did not offer information regarding victims and potential injuries to them.

His vehicle now disabled, police say the defendant fled on foot. A K9 unit found the man later as he was allegedly hiding from police beneath a trailer. Upon his arrest, officers say they noted signs of impairment.

The Florida native was booked into the Pinellas County Jail early the next morning on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement with injuries, driving with a suspended or revoked license (sixth offense), reckless driving with property damage or injury, DUI involving property damage, and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.

The defendant also faces charges of domestic battery from a separate incident. He continues to remain in custody pending a bond of $25,650. According to local media, the man has not had a valid drivers license for a dozen years, has been convicted of driving without a license on five occasions, and has been arrested for driving without a license ten times. He also was reported to have been arrested five times for fleeing from police.
