A Seminole man is facing drunk driving charges after police say he caused a car crash and had to be rescued by the fire department after becoming stuck in a ditch.
Pinellas Park Police say the 42-year-old man was driving his car through their jurisdiction at around half past ten on the evening of December 29 when he caused a single-vehicle crash at 66th Street and 62nd Avenue North.
Rather than remaining at the scene, authorities say the man fled the scene on foot. However, they say his flight came to a premature end when he encountered a concrete retention ditch, where he became trapped. Police appealed to the fire department for assistance in retrieving him, which they did shortly after arrival.
Authorities declined to offer further details of the incident. The Illinois native was booked into the Pinellas County Jail early the next morning on charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and violating the terms of his probation on a charge from Pasco County of carrying a concealed weapon. He continues to be held in custody without bond.
