Domestic Dispute In Pinellas Park Turns Violent, Leading To Felony Charges Against Couple

A man is recovering in hospital and a woman is facing a felony charge in the wake of a New Years Day domestic disturbance that escalated to deadly violence.

Police say a 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man became embroiled in an argument around mid-morning, with the situation turning violent at about half past nine. The woman had allegedly been attempting to compel the man to leave, and she evidently enlisted the help of friends in this task. Meanwhile, the man was awaiting a ride, and he proceeded to the front porch to pass the time.

Per investigators, the woman accompanied him outside while armed with a firearm. The argument continued on the porch, and investigators say the man struck the woman with an open hand, resulting in her dropping her cellphone.

Apparently enraged, the woman allegedly shot the man when he bent to retrieve the phone. First responders arrived shortly after to find the man wounded in the upper abdomen while the woman waited within the home. The man was transported to hospital, while the woman was apprehended without incident. Arresting deputies said they suspect alcohol to have been a catalyst in the affray.

The woman was booked into the Pinellas County Jail later that day and charged with a single count of aggravated domestic battery. She was released the next morning upon posting a bond of $25,000. Meanwhile the man continues to recover in hospital, and police say charges of aggravated domestic battery and probation violation for aggravated stalking await him upon his release.
