Deputies Say Curiosity Leads Hudson Man To Kill Pedestrian With His Vehicle

Authorities say a Hudson man planned to randomly kill a man for months prior to striking a pedestrian with his vehicle last week. Now he faces a charge of premeditated murder as a result.

Deputies say the 21-year-old man told them he wanted to know what it felt like to kill another human being, motivating him to look for an opportunity to do so for several weeks. They say he recognized his chance last week when he spotted a 75-year-old man walking along Aripeka Road in the early afternoon of January 10.

Passing the man in one direction, the defendant allegedly executed a u-turn and aimed his Chrysler PT Cruiser at the man as he approached Old Dixie Highway. The pedestrian attempted to evade the vehicle barreling at him, but to no avail. Investigators say the vehicle struck him, injuring him fatally. He was declared dead at the scene.

The incident damaged the defendant's vehicle, and he pulled to the side of the road about a quarter mile away. He then allegedly called 9-1-1 and confessed to the crime, and did so again to deputies who arrived at the scene a short time later.

Authorities say the only reason he gave them so far for the incident is curiosity, admitting that he laughed at the look of fear on the victim's face just prior to impact. He was calm and cooperative during interviews, and deputies say he scarcely has a record of misbehavior at all prior to last week.

The man was booked into the Pasco County Jail on one count of premeditated murder. He remains in custody without bail.
