A St. Petersburg woman is facing drunk driving charges after Pinellas County deputies say she caused a car crash that injured a fellow officer.
Per authorities, two deputies were traveling in a police cruiser in the eastbound lane of 38th Avenue North in the early morning hours of November 17 when they attempted to perform a left turn onto the northbound lane of 49th Street. Before they could clear the intersection for the yellow light, the deputies say their vehicle was struck by that of a 32-year-old woman.
Deputies say the woman’s car struck the passenger side of their police cruiser. The officer riding in the front passenger seat was lightly injured in the collision, and he was transported to hospital for treatment of those injuries. Neither the driver of the other car or the remaining deputy were injured.
Other deputies responded to the scene and reported that the woman driving the other vehicle exhibited signs of impairment. She declined to submit to a test for blood alcohol and was arrested at the scene. The Georgia native was booked into jail later that morning on one count of driving under the influence and one count of refusing to submit to testing. She was released on her own recognizance later that day.
