Fatal Fight Between Half Brothers Leads To Manslaughter Charge For Tampa Man

Hillsborough deputies say an altercation between half-brothers at a Brandon bowling alley turned deadly last week, leading to manslaughter charges against the surviving sibling.

Deputies say the two had a disagreement at the bowling alley early on the morning of November 10 that escalated in the parking lot. Investigators say the 30-year-old brother fared poorly in the fight with his 22-year-old sibling, and he struck his head against the pavement upon several occasions.

According to deputies, bystanders attempted to stop the altercation after the elder brother's head struck the pavement, but the younger brother allegedly continued the attack. The younger brother struck his sibling again with a closed fist according to witnesses, causing his legs to buckle and his head to strike the ground a third time. Bystanders were finally able to calm the younger man, and deputies say he gave them a fake name and escaped the scene.

Meanwhile, first responders began to treat the elder brother, and he was taken to hospital with a head injury. Surgeons were forced to remove a portion of his skull to alleviate pressure that was building upon his swollen brain. The elder brother succumbed to the brain injury three days later.

The younger brother was apprehended last week, and the original charge against him of battery were upgraded to manslaughter. He already faces separate charges of felon in possession of a firearm, witness tampering, robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of cannabis. He continues to be held in jail without bond.
