Alleged Carjacking Crime Spree Leads To 14-Hour Manhunt And Several Felony Charges

A 14-hour manhunt last week culminated in the arrest of a Zephyrhills man accused of a crime spree that allegedly included a carjacking, a shooting, and a police chase.

According to Pasco County authorities, the episode began Wednesday morning when the 36-year-old man saw an acquaintance at a local fast food restaurant. The man allegedly attempted to enter the vehicle and intimidate the driver by brandishing a firearm, but the driver fought him off. He retreated on foot a short distance and allegedly attempted to carjack a second car.

Upon seeing the other attempt at carjacking, the driver of the first car ran to intercede. During the fight, the suspect allegedly shot the man and stole his car instead, driving it to the home of another acquaintance. He again fought with that person, again pointed his firearm, and again fled the area, this time on foot.

Law enforcement was alerted, and they tracked him to another residence, where the occupant said her car had been stolen. Upon alerting the public, officers received a tip that the suspect had carjacked another car, forcing the driver at gunpoint to flee in the direction of Dade City.

Officers boxed in the car, and the driver escaped the vehicle. The suspect then allegedly took the wheel, backed the car at a deputy, drove forward toward another deputy, and drove off. Both officers shot at the car, and the car crashed a short distance later. The suspect fled on foot again but was apprehended by deputies.

The Brooklyn native was booked into the Pasco County Jail on three counts of carjacking, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, battery with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearms, and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement. The Dade City Police Department said that it would likely add charges at a later date. The suspect continues to be held without bond.
