A Safety Harbor woman is facing several charges after Clearwater authorities say she initiated a traffic accident that killed a motorcyclist.

Local police say the 29-year-old woman was driving southbound on Ft. Harrison Avenue near Belleview Boulevard on the afternoon of June 1 when she executed a left turn onto Belleview in her 2013 Hyundai sedan. Her two children, one two years of age and the other 18 months old, were with her in the vehicle.

Per police, the turn put her vehicle directly in the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 56-year-old Largo man. Lacking sufficient time and space to slow or make evasive maneuvers, the man struck the automobile with his motorcycle, which threw him from the motorcycle in the process. He suffered mortal injuries as a result and expired at the scene.

Upon arrival at the accident site, Clearwater officers apprehended the woman and subjected her to field-sobriety tests, on which they say she performed poorly. She was arrested at the scene and transported to the Pinellas County Jail. The Rhode Island native was booked on one count of DUI manslaughter and two counts of child neglect. She was released the next day after posting a bond of $20,000.
