A Kissimmee man is facing drunk driving and child neglect charges after Hillsborough County authorities say he drove recklessly on I-75 while intoxicated and with his children along for the ride.
Deputies say the 38-year-old man was the subject of a 9-1-1 report just before midnight on May 26 describing a driver on I-75 proceeding at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. Officers stopped the man near Adamo Drive and began to investigate.
Police say they found the man behind the wheel, but they released few other details about the traffic stop. However, they say a subsequent breath test for alcohol yielded results of 0.176% and 0.175%, which were both above Florida's statutory limit of 0.08%.
The native of Puerto Rico was arrested at the scene and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a charge of DUI and a charge of child neglect. He was released the next day upon posting a bond of $2,500. In addition to these charges, the Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the act and is expected to investigate. Information regarding the three children, who ranged in age between 6 and 8 years, has not been released.
