Tampa Woman Facing Charges After Allegedly Striking Pedestrian And Fleeing Scene While Driving Drunk

A Tampa woman is facing drunk-driving charges after authorities say she struck a pedestrian with her vehicle and left the scene of the incident while in a state of intoxication.

Tampa Police say the 34-year-old woman was piloting her 2014 Toyota Camry north on E Davis Boulevard shortly after dark last Tuesday evening when her car struck a pedestrian in the roadway at the intersection of Biscayne Avenue.

Per authorities, the woman did not stop after hitting the pedestrian, as she proceeded on another four miles with witnesses following her. Police arrived and stopped her at N Nebraska Avenue and E 17th Avenue, where they noted that her vehicle had a damaged windshield with human hair evident in a crack in the glass.

According to responding officers, the woman was confused, unable to follow simple instructions, and had a generally flat affect. In addition, the woman had difficulty with her balance, needing aid in remaining upright while standing. As a result, officers say her showing in a field-sobriety test was significantly concerning.

The woman was arrested on the scene and transported to the Hillsborough County Jail, where a breath analysis returned a blood-alcohol content of 0.164% and 0.156%. The New York native was booked on charges of DUI with serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and driving under the influence. She was released late the next morning after posting a bond of $10,000.

According to police, the pedestrian received a cut to the head and a possible broken ankle in the incident. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
