Alleged Wrong-Way Drive Down U.S. 19 Leads To DUI Charge For Dunedin Man

crash-1308575_640.jpgPinellas County authorities say a Dunedin man was intoxicated when he drove the wrong way along U.S. 19 last week.

Police say the 60-year-old man was driving in a northerly direction in the southbound lanes of the highway near Clearwater in the early morning hours of May 24 when they witnessed him and put out a warning.

Officers cleared the way along his expected route as they attempted to effect an arrest, but they say he resisted their best attempts, including those involving cutting his tires or otherwise disabling his vehicle.

The defendant's vehicle eventually came to a stop near Countryside Boulevard. The Michigan native was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail later that morning and released on his own recognizance the next day.
