Hudson Man Walks Out Of Federal Custody And Into An Arrest By Pasco County Authorities For 2001 Killing

Demo_arrest_handcuffed-768x514.jpgJust freed after completing a stretch in federal prison, a Hudson man was arrested by Pasco County authorities on suspicion of committing a murder in New Port Richey in 2001.

The 51-year-old man was released from federal custody last Friday after serving 42 months in prison on a conviction for felon in possession of a firearm. While in federal prison, Pasco County authorities began investigating him for a separate crime, namely the November 2001 killing of a 41-year-old man whose body was discovered alongside a local street.

Though the man was named a suspect at the time, police made no arrests and the case went cold. However, as the suspect languished behind bars on a federal rap, the New Port Richey police reopened the case against him. They identified no motive for the killing, which they say was accomplished via blunt-force trauma.

Police began interviewing witnesses in 2017 and presented the evidence they gathered to a grand jury the following year. The grand jury returned an indictment, and the Illinois native was taken into custody on the basis of that indictment last week.

The suspect was booked into Pasco County Jail on April 9 on a single count of premeditated murder, where he continues to be held without bond. According to local media he has prior convictions on charges including burglary, grand theft, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
