Domestic Argument Leads To Murder Charge After Riverview Man Allegedly Slays Girlfriend

Hillsborough County authorities say an argument between a Riverview man and his girlfriend last week ended in bloodshed and death after a man allegedly shot to death his girlfriend while she sat only a few feet away from her infant daughter.

Deputies say the 35-year-old man became involved in an argument with his girlfriend, who was ten years his junior. They did not specify the reason for the argument, but deputies say the intensity of it escalated when the man began wielding a 9mm pistol and shot the woman once in the torso as they both stood in the garage.

In obvious distress and alarm, the woman escaped the home in the direction of her vehicle. As she fled, police say her boyfriend sent several rounds after her, striking her at least three more times.

Waiting for the girlfriend in her vehicle was her friend and her infant son. The girlfriend made it to her car, but investigators say the boyfriend pulled her back out and shot her a fifth and final time. The friend says he then pointed the firearm at her, demanded his phone, and fled the scene in his own vehicle.

Deputies say they caught up with the man a few miles away and arrested him. Upon interviewing him, detectives say he admitted to shooting his girlfriend five times.

The Michigan native was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and armed burglary of a conveyance. He remains in custody, being held without bond.
