A St. Petersburg man is facing drunk driving charges after authorities say he caused an accident that inflicted minor injuries upon a deputy.
Per the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the 34-year-old man was motoring west on 11th Avenue S in his 2013 Nissan Altima just past midnight on January 23 when they say he failed to stop for a sign at the corner of 37th Street S and 11th Avenue S.
Though he may have neglected to stop at the sign, he stopped a short time later when he allegedly encountered a department unmarked 2007 Dodge Magnum patrol cruiser, which the office says his vehicle struck.
Officers who responded to the scene say the man displayed the telltale signs of intoxication, but his minor injuries took precedence. Both he and the deputy were transported to hospital where their injuries were addressed.
Upon his release the suspect was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail under a single charge of DUI involving property damage. He was released later that morning after posting a bond of $500.
