Alcohol-Related Crash Kills One And Severely Injures Another In Seminole

Troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol say alcohol was the catalyst for a car accident in Seminole that left one man dead and another fighting for his life.

According to troopers, a 56-year-old Seminole man was driving his 2013 Dodge Challenger southbound on Starkey Road early on the morning of December 30 when it violently encountered a Lincoln Mark LT light truck driven by a 50-year-old man, also of Seminole, going in the opposite direction.

Per investigators, the Challenger executed a turn at Magnolia Drive that brought it into the path of the Mark LT, with the inevitable result. Investigators say the Mark LT's driver was impaired at the time, and thus unable to react appropriately. In addition, they say he was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident.

The impact sent the truck off the road, striking a concrete bench, a street sign, a wooden fence, and finally stopping after hitting a utility pole. First responders arrived shortly after the collision, collecting the 50-year-old man and delivering him to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where at last report he was in critical condition. A passenger in the Mark LT was also taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The 56-year-old man involved in the incident was not as fortunate. He was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital for treatment of his injuries, but they soon proved to be mortal.

Though no arrests have yet been made, authorities say charges are currently pending. They gave no further information on the nature of said charges.
