Clearwater Man With Revoked License Allegedly Causes Four Crashes On U.S. 19 While Under The Influence

640px-Altima-Accident.jpgA Clearwater man whose Florida drivers license had been previously revoked allegedly drove again last week, causing a series of wrecks on U.S. 19 while under the influence of illicit drugs.

Per Clearwater police, the 52-year-old man drove his Chevrolet light truck along the route on the morning of December 18, allegedly striking the first vehicle near Gulf to Bay Boulevard. They say he failed to stop at the scene of this accident, proceeding on down the highway.

Police say the next accident was at the Drew Street exit, after which he fled. He allegedly struck two more vehicles at State Road 590, attempting to again depart the scene. Finally catching up to the man, officers say he was still in his vehicle, but unresponsive.

All told, two individuals were taken to hospital for treatment across all four vehicles. The driver was arrested on the scene of the final accident and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on over a dozen counts, specifically three counts of leaving the scene of an injury accident, four counts of driving with a suspended or revoked license, four counts of DUI, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and probation violations of DUI and refusal to submit to blood-alcohol testing. He continues to be held without bond.
