Port Richey Man Allegedly Bites Deputy During Flight From Drug Arrest

CocaineHydrochloridePowder_cropped.jpgLast week a Port Richey man allegedly fled from law enforcement and was bitten by a police dog before being apprehended on suspicion of drug activity.

Pasco County Sheriff's deputies say a man was driving in New Port Richey on October 30 when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Rather than slowing his vehicle, deputies say he sped away.

Per deputies, his flight led him to go against traffic in some spots as well as allegedly attempting to ram a police cruiser. He ultimately struck a different vehicle head-on, disabling his own vehicle, they say. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The chase did not end there, as deputies say the defendant continued his flight on foot. Deputies say they caught up with him, but he fought back, allegedly biting a deputy in the process. The bitten deputy was in the process of applying a headlock when Sheehan bit his forearm, per the department.

The suspect was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody, but not before he was bitten himself by a K9 officer whose handler responded to the chase. Upon his arrest, deputies say they discovered methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

After being medically cleared at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, the man was booked into the Pasco County Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a law officer, resisting an officer with violence, two counts of battery on a law officer, transporting drug paraphernalia, transporting drug paraphernalia, fleeing or eluding police with injury or property damage, transporting drug paraphernalia, two counts of transporting drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended or revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving with property damage. The Jamestown, New York native continues to be held in lieu of a bond of $105,500.
