Authorities say a Treasure Island woman was impaired by prescription drugs when she struck a septuagenarian with her vehicle in Madiera Beach last Wednesday.

Twenty-six-year-old Ashley Nicole Konforte is accused by Pinellas County Sheriffs deputies of hitting 73-year-old Nancy Durham-Jones of North Port as she was crossing Gulf Boulevard north of 130th Avenue at around half past eight Wednesday evening. Officers say Durham-Jones and her husband were using a marked crosswalk after having activated the crosswalk signal when Konforte failed to yield the right of way and struck her with her 2014 Hyundai Elantra.

Paramedics from Madeira Beach Fire Rescue attempted to revive Durham-Jones at the scene of the accident, but their efforts were in vain. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies allege that Konforte displayed signs of impairment at the scene of the accident, and they say she admitted to haven taken several prescription drugs prior to the event. They also allegedly discovered an unspecified amount of cannabis in the vehicle upon her arrest.

Konforte was arrested without incident around 10:40 that evening and was booked into Pinellas County Jail just after two o’clock the next morning. She is charged with possession of cannabis and DUI manslaughter. Konforte posted a $20,500 bond and was released at half past ten the same morning.
