St. Pete Man Charged With DUI After Allegedly Rear-Ending PCSO Vehicle

drink-driving-808790_640.jpgA St. Petersburg man is facing drunk-driving charges after Pinellas County deputies say he failed to stop for a red light and crashed into a PCSO cruiser.

Deputies say Zacharian Ray Johnson was piloting his 2016 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on 38th Avenue N when he encountered a red light at the traffic signal at 34th Street N. Also at the signal was Shannon Clark and passenger Ernest Clark in her 2005 Dodge Neon, while Deputy Christoper Ludtke sat in his police cruiser behind Clark's vehicle.

Per investigators, Johnson failed to obey the red light, sending his Elantra into the rear of Ludtke's cruiser and pushing that cruiser into the rear of the Clarks' vehicle. Police say Ludtke was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while the Clarks declined treatment by first responders at the scene.

Deputies say Johnson showed signs of impairment upon exiting his vehicle, and he was placed under arrest after providing breath samples. Per investigators, the blood-alcohol testing performed on Johnson yielded levels of 0.159% and 0.171%, both of which exceed the level at which Florida statute presumes impairment.

Johnson was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on a count of driving without a license and DUI involving property damage. He was released that afternoon upon posting a bond of $750.
