A nurse in Spring Hill is facing charges after Hernando County Sheriff's deputies say she stole thousands of pills of pain killers from her place of work.
A local rehab clinic reported the theft of a long list of pain pills to the authorities on June 25, alleging the individual responsible to be Ashley Kristian Taylor, a nurse employed at the facility.
Upon her arrest, Taylor allegedly told deputies that she routinely ordered additional medication for the facility's patience in order to ensure that the clinic had a sufficient supply on hand. However, she said that she had a robust addiction to pain medicine thanks to an injury she suffered many years ago.
Per Hernando County deputies, a search at her home yielded over 300 empty packs of medications including Percocet, morphine, codeine, and alprazolam (Xanax), totaling 10,000 pills. They say the drugs matched up with those reported stolen by the clinic.
Taylor was booked into the Hernando County Jail later that day on one charge of grand larceny, 13 counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of fraud to obtain property under $20,000, and one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. She continues to be held pending a bond of $33,000.
