Although there remains a question of jurisdiction, the boyfriend of a Hernando County park ranger whose body was discovered afloat in a waterway in Georgia will face charges related to her death.

Per authorities, Mitzi Marie Babb was last seen on June 19, leading to a search by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office two days later. They say the search ended on June 29 with the discovery of her remains floating in a waterway in Camden County in southeastern Georgia.

As police were searching for Babb, authorities in Peach County, Georgia issued a warrant for the arrest of Jeffrey Michael Morrison on suspicion of burglary and arson. Allegedly having committed those crimes earlier that day, Morrison turned himself in on June 21 at an inspection station in Hamilton County, Florida. Telling the attendants that he had committed burglary, arson, and a homicide, the 42-year-old man was arrested by deputies shortly thereafter.

Camden County authorities have promised that Morrison will stand trial for the death of the 43-year-old Babb in their jurisdiction. He may also face charges in Hamilton County, but, at the time of the latest reporting, the exact charges they will lay against him had yet to be determined.
