Man Suspected of Hit-and-Run Death in Pennsylvania Apprehended in Tampa

US_Marshals_fingerprinting_prisoner.pngA man who Pennsylvania authorities say fled the state after causing a fatal car accident was apprehended by Tampa Police last week.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania authorities say Kristopher Martinez-Roman was driving in the area on May 24 when he ran a red stoplight in his SUV around dusk that day, striking another vehicle with two juniors from the local high school.

Per investigators, Martinez-Roman's SUV hit the other vehicle broadside at the point where the front quarter panel joins the passenger door. They say the SUV was certainly traveling at significant speed due to the dynamics of the wreck and the injuries to those involved.

Of the two passengers in the vehicle struck by the SUV, only one survived. Isaia Candelario, who was driving the car, suffered mortal injuries in the wreck, while a second student, whose name was not released by authorities, was listed in critical but stable condition at last report.

Meanwhile, Martinez-Roman allegedly fled the scene with his passenger close behind. After failing to apprehend him immediately after the incident, Lancaster authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on charges including two counts of causing an accident involving injury or death, causing an accident involving injury or death while not properly licensed, and a raft of other traffic violations.

Martinez-Roman was finally arrested last week by Tampa police acting on information provided by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force. He currently awaits extradition from the Hillsborough County Jail to Pennsylvania to face the above charges.

Lancaster authorities say SUV passenger Josue Rivera, who has warrants for other alleged crimes, is still at large and is being actively sought.
