Largo Couple On the Lam After Allegedly Fraudulently Leasing Same House to Fifteen Different Families

contract-1464917_640.jpgA Largo couple is being sought by police on suspicion of fraudulently leasing the same house to over a dozen different families.

Largo police allege that Nicole and David Johnson knowingly agreed to rent to at least 15 different families, pocketing over $30,000 in the process. The couple allegedly then fled the house, which is owned by Nicole's father Christopher Dominick, last Friday in a vehicle also owned by Dominick.

Police say the pair is traveling with their children, but they did not divulge any other information on the couple. They say they are in the process of obtaining arrest warrants for the duo.

At a press conference organized by Largo police, investigators said that they obtained security deposits ranging from $1,000 to $4,300 from the families who signed the fraudulent leases. The Johnsons allegedly found the victims on social media and online classified ad sites, with David posing as a real estate agent. Some families even toured the house, they say.

On signing the lease and tendering a deposit, the victims allege the Johnsons of engaging in delaying tactics and pushing back the move-in date at the house. However, the tactic ultimately came to an end when four families who had signed leases on the property arrived simultaneously last Tuesday. They say they quickly determined that they were victims of fraud and subsequently notified Largo police.

The couple is still at large at the time of this writing.
